The event’s theme was “Building Resilience,” reflecting our focus on empowering graduates to overcome challenges and succeed in their future endeavors. The ceremony was attended by over 255 people, including family members, friends, and community supporters.

The highlight of the evening was the presence of special guest speakers, including honorable government officials and ministers. These distinguished guests delivered inspiring speeches, encouraging the graduates to embrace resilience in the face of adversity. Their words of wisdom and motivation left a lasting impact on everyone present.

Action 4 Humanity made a significant contribution to the event by providing scholarship money to high school graduates and gifts to university graduates. Additionally, they generously gifted each graduate with a certificate of appreciation. The evening was further enriched by a delicious dinner and vibrant cultural entertainment, allowing attendees to celebrate together and enjoy the sense of community.
We also value the presence of Mount Royal University and Bow Valley College, whose representatives provided valuable guidance and information to high school graduates, helping them navigate their future educational paths.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, partners, and volunteers, whose support made this event possible. A special thank you goes to our sponsors: Calgary Foundation, Somali Canadian Society of Calgary, Alberta Government, Canadian Race Relations Foundation, Umoja Mosaic Community, Burns Memorial Fund, and Minuteman Press. On the first day of the event, we will be hosting an opening ceremony with the community elders’ blessing, history telling, and presentation on the contribution of Afro-Canadians to Albertans/Canadian society. There will be live African cultural music and a cultural show at the event. The main goal is to bring diverse community youth and citizens together with diverse heritage, recognize each other’s culture through music and learn from indigenous and Afro-Canadian and other people’s history and become proud of their own diverse culture, and promote unity and resilience.

Action 4 Humanity with the financial support of the government of Alberta, will be serving African cultural food at the event. We will also establish networking of people to people where Africans share their knowledge, experience, and life in the future.

On the second day of the event, Action 4 Humanity will create a stage for families and children where children can play and learn how to play the drum, paint, and craft,

Youth and children need safe and fun programs. Having this program provides kids with opportunities to connect with positive role models and peers. Children and youth and families enjoy barbeque while exploring our core program areas.

There would be a photo session with a professional photographer to keep lasting memories.

Mental Health Action https://action4humanity.ca/mental-health-action/ Fri, 12 Aug 2022 04:58:45 +0000 https://action4humanity.ca/?p=5648 East- African Communities in Alberta are calling for immediate mental health action.

Komkan African Institute had carried out research focusing on mental health and other issues affecting African immigrants.

Khor Top is the executive director of Komkan African Institute. He shared his mental health research findings with Action 4 Humanity.

Racial trauma, systemic discrimination, pre-immigration trauma, cultural sock, and language barrier are some of the findings affecting black communities according to the research.

The research called out for government and stakeholders’ intervention to end communities suffering from mental health issues.

Creating safer spaces, mental health education, addressing racial trauma, and allocating enough resources to a grassroots organization that understands the language, culture, religion, and values of the communities can improve the suffering of the black communities across the country according to Khor Top director of the Komkan African Institute.

Action 4 Humanity development Foundation is taking the initiative to partner with different stakeholders including Komkan African Institute to create a safe and healthy community across Canada.

Action 4 Humanity is working to create awareness of mental health issues including covid 19 related issues. We are producing audio and video materials on the burden and trauma of mental health issues created in our community.

As Action 4 Humanity we are helping out our community by establishing African-trained mental health professionals that understand the root causes of mental health problems in their community. We are providing education through zoom, video production, and other communication channels.
